Divergent thinking is linked to creativity.
Though creative people may indeed be intelligent, those proficient in divergent thinking skills are not necessarily exceptionally smart.
Though they can be gifted in the creative sense.
Not everybody is going to be highly intelligent or even of average intelligence.
It's worth noting that not every form of intelligence is necessarily as advantageous as others.
People with a high level of social aptitude might possess the power to communicate with others on much higher strata. This could be functionally more rewarding than more academic bound mental acuity.
Scholastic smarts
Scholastic intelligence might well have many uses, but in many ways, those individuals who have extremely fine-tuned social skills have a powerful advantage.
It's also not often talked about in academic circles. This is partially because many academics themselves lack social aptitude especially those with high IQs. There is also a degree of intellectual snobbery which precludes many people from being internally honest about the relation between some skills and intelligence.
Or even that some skills denote any kind of intelligence whatsoever.
High-level social aptitude
Theoretically, social aptitude is a version (or subset) of intelligence. It requires an understanding of interpersonal relationships as well as the applicative ability to act in a manner that coaxes others in accordance with social norms.
This is where many exceptionally gifted academics actually struggle. For some reason, many of them lack the finesse of social aptitude and a greater understanding of the nuance required to implement social skills effectively.
